Excellent book. I got so immersed in the characters, I hated for the story to end.

This beautifully written romance chronicles 12 days before Christmas in the lives of Rachel and Sam McRae of Baxter, Ohio. It begins when a social worker talks them into temporarily fostering 3 abandoned children. But the McRaes are tragically childless after 12 years of marriage, wracked with grief and guilt, and their marriage is on the rocks. Day by day during the town's annual holiday countdown to Christmas celebration, Rachel and Sam struggle to care for the children, who push all the buttons of their past hurts. There is a HEA, but it's bittersweet, and the path to get there is twisted. The book is emotionally rich, and evokes both romance and a Dickensian Christmas experience. Read it in December.
