Patchett’s characters truly come to life and her story telling is flawless. On to another Patchett novel!

Although I have loved several of Patchett’s earlier books, this one lacked enough momentum for me. I kept waiting for a surprise that would make it worthwhile. No surprise. Very simple plot, the pages are filled with extremely detailed description of the most irrelevant things. What a disappointment. The ending was weak, and even redundant, though the author was presumably showing how the child’s heroism had been so overlooked. So what? This is not interesting or unusual.

It’s easy to forget you’re reading a book called Whistler rather than seeing it as a film on a big screen. Each scene in Whistler is crafted beautifully, and the characters easily come to life. This story is charming.
